Mine operators looking for long term cost benefits and operational flexibility are looking for innovative technologies. Crownsmen Partners President Jerrod Downey and Director of Management and Training Gaudy Molina interview Brent Hilscher, Principle Process Engineer at Sacre Davey Engineering, during the Crownsmen Podcast. According to Hilscher, the sensor based ore sorting technologies are cost effective in long term and ensure higher accuracies while sorting the ore. Sacre Davey Engineering focuses on mining related studies and construction projects.
He feels the grades have decreased considerably especially in the gold industry which is affecting the industry profits. Currently the sensor based technologies focus on studying the rock’s frequency of light, the color, X-ray transmission, X-ray fluorescence, electromagnetic/infrared laser etc. to compare to other databases and can ensure up to 95.0% accuracy.
Sensor based sorting technologies will be the go-to technology in the future says Hilscher. Once improvements are made in top size analysis, sensor accuracy and sensitivity and partnerships are developed, these technologies will greatly reduce operating costs.
