MacLean Engineering specializes in mobile equipment solutions based on underground mining experience, unit-of-one manufacturing expertise, and worldwide customer service and support. They have been innovating for mining equipment safety and productivity for almost 50 years, supporting customers worldwide with branches across Canada as well as in the United States, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, and Australia.

In this part 1 of our three-part series, Mining Now travels to Australia to interview VP of Technology Patrick Marshall and Product Management & Business Development Dan Stern. This episode is filmed at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Sydney.

MacLean has continued to evolve and grow their capabilities over the last years regarding electric vehicles (EVs) and has been instrumental in the development and acceptance of EVs in Australia. Patrick will discuss some of the key points on electrification and MacLean’s technology, solutions, and services.

Dan also joins in the conversation to walk us through his role in Product Management & Business Development. He also shares that he has seen firsthand how his company’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances has led to success—a quality that he believes is essential for any organization, especially those that are involved in engineering or innovation.

MacLean has made sure that they’ve taken into account how the vehicle will be used so that it can be as effective as possible. For example, they’ve designed it so that it can effectively drive through tight, uneven spots while still being able to turn around when needed. This is important because if the vehicle can’t navigate itself out of a tight space then it can’t be used at all.

When your customers are working in tight spaces and dealing with difficult environments, you have to build equipment that can handle bad conditions. They have developed several different types of vehicles for mining companies to help them get their work done. Their mobile equipment solutions are especially geared toward underground mining, as it helps miners deal with issues like poor visibility, rough terrain, and high temperatures. The machines are also built to be rugged so they can withstand the demands of underground work.
