The Quesnel Gold Show which was in its 7th year saw vendors coming in from Alberta and all over BC. Primary focus of the Quesnel Gold Show was anything to do with gold and gold recovery including placer mining which was attended by archaeologists, gold mines and several large corporations like Zenith etc.
Our President Jerrod Downey and CMO Gaudy Molina attended the show and interviewed experts from the industry to highlight challenges faced by placer mining operations in BC. Clair Schmidt, owner of a placer mining operation in Wells BC, shares his views on how difficult it is becoming for placer mines to continue to be economically viable amidst stricter regulations from the government and strong opposition from the public.
Rick Wittner, President of the Cariboo Mining Association (CMA) on the other hand believes mining activities like placer mining not only generate jobs but also support goods and services industry by pumping money into the economy. He also focuses on leading initiatives to provide proof to government officials, First Nation communities, students etc. that placer mining operations are operating in an environmentally friendly way and causing as minimal footprint as possible.
